SINOPSIS
COMPETENCIAS

CG 3 - Conocimiento de las literaturas en lengua inglesa.
CG 4 - Conocimiento de la historia y cultura de los países de lengua inglesa.
(b) Competencias Procedimentales:
CG 6 - Capacidad para negociar, hacerse entender, redactar informes y documentos, manejar información masiva y compleja y utilizar herramientas informáticas y presentar en público productos, ideas e informes, todo ello en lengua inglesa.
CG 7 - Capacidad de orientar interdisciplinarmente las competencias ya mencionadas, con el objeto de que resulten extrapolables a una variedad de ámbitos profesionales en los que éstas son cada vez más valoradas (véase la relación de las profesiones para las que capacita el título).
(c) Competencias Actitudinales:
CG 10 - Desarrollo de una actitud reflexiva y crítica sobre la lengua inglesa, su cultura y sus literaturas.
CG 11 - Desarrollo, tanto personal como intelectual, de actitudes de convivencia y diálogo entre ideologías, géneros y etnias, así como a la profundización en culturas ajenas que impone el estudio de las literaturas en lengua inglesa. Desarrollo de la corrección política.
Específicas
After completing this course, the student will be able to identify and analyze aesthetic elements shaping Elizabethan playwrights literary production, express critical judgments on their work and on the body of critical texts written about them, and assess the specific influence of Elizabethan drama on later periods.

Clases teóricas
2. Lectura individual guiada de antologías de textos representativos de los períodos que se estudian y/u obras (en toda su extensión) claves de dichos períodos.
3. Lectura individual guiada de textos críticos que aborden el período que se trata.
Theoretical classes:
1. Theoretical introduction to the content of the subject through lectures. Those classes will be oriented to describe a general theoretical panorama of the course content, leaving the practical work to group work at seminar level and debate groups.
2. Guided individual reading of representative texts' anthologies of the period under study and/or complete key works of those periods.
3. Guided individual reading of critical texts that address the period studied.

4. Debate groups formation that deal in a practical manner -that is, through the analysis, discussion and contrasting opinions- the content of the course subject matter. These debate groups will be guided by the teacher. The work and participation invested in these groups should be reflected in the students' final assessment.

5. Screening films and documentaries that help reach the course practical objectives described above. The Department understands that these activities should foster a critical viewing, thus the screenings will be complemented, in every case, with debate forums and class discussion.

This course offers a panoramic view of Renaissance English Drama through the analysis of works by the greatest playwrights of the period: Shakespeare, Jonson and Marlowe, among others, focusing on the social role of the theatre as a literary genre.

Para conseguir los objetivos de esta materia se utilizarán las siguientes estrategias:
-Profundización en el teatro renacentista a través de sus textos.
-Iniciar al alumno en la lectura de textos críticos sobre el periodo.
-Incentivar la capacidad de análisis del alumno del corpus literario renacentista inglés en el contexto cultural contemporáneo de igualdad y respeto.
-Desarrollar el juicio crítico personal del alumno como valor fundamental del graduado en estudios ingleses.
This course will comprise the study of the evolution of English theatre during the Renaissance. The main objective is to familiarize students with the different styles that characterize English canonical plays throughout the period (from the dawn of English theatre until the closing of the playhouses during Charles Is reign, exploring the Elizabethan and Jacobean artistic productions) so that they are capable of producing their own critical discourse about the literary texts under study in their historical, social and artistic context.
To reach this courses objectives, the following strategies will be used:
- In-depth study of Renaissance drama though the close reading of its texts.
- Initiate students in the reading of critical studies about the period.
- Encourage students analytical capacity and critical exploration of the English Renaissance drama corpus from todays contemporary cultural context and increase their knowledge of the historical period so that they can better assess its authors contributions to our understanding of human equality and respect.
- Develop the students personal critical assessment as a fundamental value of an English degree graduate.

Evaluación
This course is designed to undergo a continuous evaluation of the student's progress (the specific value attributed to his/her daily work in any case will surpass the 20% of the final grade) and a final exam that will comprise theory and practice of the content studied, its value will oscillate between 50% and 70% of the final grade. This grade could be complemented, as the teacher sees fit, with the assignment of essays and text commentaries, whose specific weight should not surpass the 30% of the final grade.
